Training Day

29/07/2021
I wake up sore which is to be expected really, I also find it difficult to move into a comfortable position. I manage to eat properly for the first time in weeks, It feels good to have an appetite back after weeks of not wanting to eat because of the stomach cramps and constant bowel movements. I can notice the difference immediately of having the tumour removed.
I'm told a Stoma nurse will be around at some point in the day to start my Stoma training of how to care and manage my Stoma bag. I pass the time by reading until the nurse comes.

A Stoma nurse eventually turns up and I'm sat upright in a chair which took some maneuvering considering I can hardly move at all.
The Nurse removes the Stoma bag that was fitted during the operation and that's when I see this Pink lump protruding from my stomach for the first time. I look down at it and cry because it's another reminder of how my life will change. Despite this I know it was done for the right reasons and believe having the Stoma saved my life.

The Nurse goes through the items in my Stoma kit bag explaining what they are and what they do before changing the bag for me, I will eventually have to change it a few times myself in the Hospital and prove I'm competent enough before I can be discharged.
The kit bag consists of adhesive remover, scissors, stoma bag, disposable fragrance bags, wipes, a clip to keep my tops out the way and some fragrance drops to disguise the smell of the bag.
