I arrive early in the morning at Good Hope Hospital with everything needed for a week stay.
I sit in reception until a nurse calls my name, I'm taken to my own cubicle where a Covid swab is performed and I undress and change into a dressing gown.
It's about 1pm when I walk into the theatre, I lie down on the bed & the anaesthetist takes over. I stupidity ask how long the operation will take knowing it will seem like seconds when I eventually come round.
The operation takes about 5 hours and I'm wheeled back into my cubicle on the unit.
I start to come around & can feel the soreness all around my abdomen.
I look down and can see my Stoma bag on my stomach, I burst into tears as the realisation of this change will effect my life but at the same time happy that the tumour has been removed.
I manage to have a phone call with Michelle from my hospital bed, It wasn't long since I waved goodbye in the morning but I am so happy just to see her face and I manage to get emotional yet again ðŸ˜ðŸ˜.
The drugs are doing the best to keep me pain free and I eventually drop off to sleep but it doesn't last for long as the Nurse's are continually waking me to check my stats every 2 to 3 hours.
