So this morning I'm out the house early to go to Everyman Motor Racing Experiences,Everyman Racing Which was kindly organised by my friend Andy Acha following a whip round at Tipton Harriers.
I arrive at Prestwold at 10:30 ready to start at 11:00, We having a safety briefing first before I can start the experience followed by a demo lap as a passenger so we know where to break & turn at the correct points for the apex.
First car up is the Ferrari F430 where I score 32 out of 40 from the instructor. The scoring is based on correct positioning of the car on the track & the control you have of the car and not how fast or sideways or can get the car, They also have a no spin policy so if you do your day is terminated.
The 2nd car I get into is an older car, The Ferrari F360, It takes a while to start the car and then decides to stay in neutral before restarting the car gets everything working again. The F360 is less responsive on getting the power down then the F430 but I'm becoming familiar with the track now and score 33.
They save the best to last, The next Ferrari is the 458 and the power & the purring of the engine is something else, Even though it's the fastest of the 3 I've driven I feel more confident in this car and push a little bit more on both the straights and bends. I score another 33 out of 40 giving some good & consistent scores for the day.
Finally I get to experience a hot lap in a BMW M3 driven by a professional race car driver. He makes my efforts in the Ferrari's look tame as he accelerates & drifts round the bends and gets the car sideways at crazy speeds.
I can honestly say I had a great morning & afternoon and would recommend it to anybody, Plus that is the 3rd thing on my Epic list now crossed off.
Because of the early start I come home to open my Birthday cards and gifts.
The gifts were amazing, I have another driving experience to book, An Aston Villa woolly hat, A Mr Flibble face mask and a Pork Pie making experience for myself & Michelle to enjoy at Melton Mowbray.
Evening
The evening sees Michelle's birthday present to me, A meal at Fiumes Italian restaurant in Wolverhampton and a chance to do a 4th item on my Epic list which is to eat at a proper independent Italian restaurant & not at one of the big chains of Italian restaurants.
The food was so fresh and amazing, I had the Cookie dough for dessert and it was the best dessert I've ever had.
Will definitely be returning again and I can highly recommend Fiume to everyone.
I can honestly say I've had the best birthday imaginable and here's to many more to come.
